Ann Pham
Ann Lam-Anh Pham is a visual artist and oil painter residing in Arlington, Virginia. Her paintings are abstract and portray progress, struggle, and introspective growth through a variety of subjects that are inspired by her life experiences. Ann’s goal is to increase our collective awareness and comprehension of our interdependence with each other, the planet, and all living beings. She employs her art to make sense of things, overcome obstacles, and gain a deeper understanding of herself.
Ann shared: “I am drawn to moments and subjects depicting progress, struggle, and ultimately of the inward growth. Each work represents various parts of me, my memories and glimpses of a journey to find meaning, or are simply aesthetic meditations. Whether the piece of art reminds you of something you can’t quite put your finger on, or lives in a specific place and time, it is my goal to land you in a beautiful place or inside our shared humanity. Through the art, I hope to expand the collective awareness of our interconnectedness with each other, our planet and all beings. Adjusting our perspectives of ideas and the space around us is valuable to our evolution.”
Ann’s artistic process involves using layering techniques with various colors to depict the dedicated work that goes through to achieve simplicity and a sense of peace in life. She uses the method of underpainting, which adds more depth and dimension to her artwork. She learned this technique from the practice of realistic painting. To begin a piece, Ann first sketches her ideas to simplify them and plan out the basic structure, composition, and colors. Focusing on one thought, reflection, or experience, she believes our mind expands greatly. This process helps her to simplify each work and create a more meaningful piece.
Ann’s ultimate goal is to share a deep sense of peace, a spark of reflection, and a renewed appreciation for our journey and existence.
